Scoops – The Quest For the Worlds Best Ice-Cream

Welcome to Scoops. As part of my travels I am on a quest to find the world’s best ice cream. When it comes to ice cream I am a big believer that there is always time for ice cream. As someone wiser than me one said:

It’s not a holiday without ice cream.

– Someone wiser than me

A lot of traveling is actually hard work and not a holiday. However, it is important to take the time to enjoy the little things. For me, it is taking the time to enjoy an ice cream (or two). If you tell me it’s too cold for ice-cream. I am going to tell you that the colder it is, the slower it melts.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy my custom map of ice cream around the world. I have included the name of each of the places I bought it. If this gains some traction I’ll start providing reviews for each of the ice creams I have in the future.

I need your help

Fellow ice cream lovers, I need your help. finding the world’s best ice cream takes more than just one person. With so many ice creams to taste and so little time to try them all I need all the help I can get.

Where have you had the best ice cream in the world? Let me know in the comments below.

  1. I live in Canberra – the political capital of Australia and someone has just developed a gelato to reflect the essence of the city. – the CBR: Crunchy Berry Ripple.

As described in a recent article, when broken down, each flavour of the gelato reflects the essence of the city. Starting with vanilla as the base, it was a popular suggestion as Canberra is often characterised as bland (a very unfair suggestion we might add). Another common answer was wattleseed, as a nod to the wattle trees that are symbolic of Canberra and so it was also added. Then, macadamias, a nut native to Queensland to represent all those who have come from other places to make Canberra their home.

While the gelato has a creamy, nutty base, like Canberra owners say there is much more to it than meets the eye, adding a brittle of caramelised local honey and sweet swirls of raspberry coulis.

“We wanted to incorporate some crunch to symbolise the less-loved parts of Canberra (roundabouts, property prices and politicians), with sweet and tangy raspberry representing the gooey adoration that many Canberrans have for the wonderful parts of our city (our short commutes, lovely lakes, and great community),” says the co-owner.

    Sounds delicious! And memorable!

    1. Omg, that sounds delicious. I’ll have to check it out if I’m ever in the area! I’ve never had an ice-cream with wattleseed before. Thanks for sharing Genevieve.

  2. If you’re looking for the best gelato, you can’t go past the ‘best ice-cream and gelato in Australia’ awards. The 2024 Australian Grand Champion Dairy Gelato Award has just been given to a peanut caramel gelato from Sunnybank, Brisbane.

PS 24 March every year is World Gelato Day!
